John Edney
John Edney studied at Trinity College of Music with Geoffrey Lindon. His debut was in 1958, straight from College, with the then Festival Ballet company and the Arts Council Touring Opera, both as principal trombone. Further experience was gained working UK wide with the BBC, most London orchestras and in the West End Theatre circuit.
Membership of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House followed during the era of conductor Sir Georg Solti. John was a member of the original London Trombone Quartet (which broadcast live many times on Radio 3), the London Mozart Players and the City of London Sinfonia. There were also many appearances with David Munro, John Eliot Gardner and Musica Reservata playing a broad variety of early music. For some years he was the head of brass for the Inner London Education Authority and still coaches for the London Schools Symphony Orchestra Organisation. He is a long-serving member of the Orchestra of St.Johns, and was for some years the membership secretary of the British Trombone Society.
