James studied classical trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music and graduated in 2008 with a BMus, LRAM and Post Graduate degrees. While at the Academy, James held principal chairs in the Concert Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Ensemble, Symphonic Brass Ensemble, Brass Soloist and Opera Ensembles. Under the tuition of James Watson, Rod Franks, Robert Farley, John Hutch, Mark David and Paul Archibald he explored different areas of study from classical repertoire through to contemporary theatre. He also was awarded the Leverhulme Orchestral Mentorship Scheme and The Bloden Cosslett Leyshon Prize during his Post Graduate studies.
Since graduating, James won a place on the London Philharmonic Orchestra Future First programme. The scheme involves working closely with orchestral musicians and assisting education and outreach projects. James currently works as a freelance musician enjoying a mixture of performances from orchestral concerts, west end shows, commercial recording sessions and TV broadcasts.
