CONCERTO for TRUMPET and ORCHESTRA by ROBERT RAMSKILL
This version is identical to the Trumpet and and Piano version but with added parts for Drum Kit and Bass Guitar, in order to emphasise the jazz qualities of the work.
These parts differ from the Drum Kit and Bass Guitar parts found in the orchestral version of the work.
This piece was commissioned by the Sutton Coldfield Orchestra for their 50th anniversary celebration concert in October 2025. It is full of the jazz melodies, rhythms and harmonies that have been a feature of Robert's compositions for many years and Robert knew that Steve Lee, who had recorded some of his earlier music for Brass Wind Publications, would be the ideal trumpet player to give the work its first performance.
Including MP3 download with 5 extracts from the Concerto, two from Movement 1, one from movement 2 and two from movement 3.
Movement 1: Maestoso - Allegro moderato
- in which the composer gives full rein to his Jazz influences
Movement 2: Andante tranquillo
-in which the central section has echoes of the kind of music you might hear in a Greek taverna!
Movement 3: Con brio
- a lively and cheerful movement which shows the influence of a number of different Latin music idioms.
'A stunning work, beautifully written and orchestrated. A perfect vehicle for the superb soloist, Steve Lee.'
